  • Before Your First Session
Before attending your first session, please register through our secure HIPAA-compliant portal and complete the required forms. After your first session, you and your clinician will decide how to proceed together. Our clinicians work with you to set goals and direction for therapy. Generally, the first few sessions include focused time on establishing a treatment plan. When providing couple or family therapy, we may meet individually with each member of the family to solicit feedback and finalize plans for treatment. The length of treatment can vary and is unique for each client and their needs.
  • How Our Time in Therapy Unfolds
It is common to be apprehensive about the first therapy session. We specialize in creating a safe, accountable and nurturing space to help you get comfortable with the process of therapy. Your therapist will give you their undivided attention during each session. We are committed to creating a sanctuary where you feel safe, empowered and heard. In therapy, we process information, construct well-informed goals and work through any challenges to achieving those goals. Therapy is your time and it is customized based upon your desired outcomes. Typically, the first several sessions are devoted to building rapport and gathering information. We understand that concerns and goals sometimes shift and deepen over time as you feel safer and more comfortable with your therapist. Much of the focus of the first sessions will be getting to know each other, sharing your presenting problem, assessing, and mutually exploring your therapeutic and mental health goals. Our therapists will encourage you to take themes discussed in therapy and work on them between sessions. Feel free to bring paper or a notebook to session if you would like to take notes.
  • Your Session
If you are new to therapy, nerves are normal. We are committed to making this a safe environment and helping you feel comfortable. If you are joining us in office, choose a seat you are comfortable in. If you are joining us through telehealth, try to choose a location that allows you to be free of distractions and have the level of confidentiality you desire. Your first session is about getting to know one another so that we can help you as quickly as possible. Therapists may ask questions to gather information necessary so your health insurance will cover your treatment. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about us, our experience and what you can expect from therapy. We want you to feel comfortable. Therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. Some couple or family and sessions are more beneficial with extra time. We also offer 75 minute sessions.
  • Choosing the Right Therapist
Connecting with your therapist is important. You will need to develop a relationship where you feel heard, where you can be open and honest, and where you trust the care you are receiving. This can sometimes take a few sessions. As a client, you have the right to request a referral at any time. We care about helping you find the right therapist to reach your goals with.
  • Payment
A valid credit card is required to book sessions even if you are using insurance to pay for services. All payments must be made before sessions begin by PayPal, cash, check or credit/debit card. We want you to be able to focus on reaching your goals and not worry about how insurance works. We will check your benefits, explain them to you, help you predict what your costs may be. Let us get you scheduled, bill your insurance company and assist in navigating the reimbursement process. Clients are responsible for all charges if their insurance company fails to authorize reimbursement. Clients are also responsible for fees associated with not showing for an appointment, cancelation of appointments outside of the cancellation window, and administrative fees.
